I'm walking miles to change young lives

On Sunday 6th October, I will be taking part in the Palace Walk. With OneAdvanced colleagues I will be walking 13.1 miles around Windsor to help young people create a better future for themselves.

The Prince's Trust has tailored programmes and provides long-term support give young people the practical skills and emotional resilience to pick themselves back up and create their own positive futures.

The recent Class of Covid report reveals almost half of young people in the UK (49%) feel anxious about their future on a daily basis, with 59% agreeing it feels frightening for their generation. Findings suggest the impact of the pandemic and now a cost-of-living crisis is taking its toll on young people, as 45% agree anxiety around recent political and economic events affects them daily. More than a third (35%) feel their life is spiralling out of control, and for those from lower income backgrounds, this increases to 41%.With 3 young people at home I can testify to the lasting effects of COVID on their mental health.

Please help me support The Prince's Trust by sponsoring my Palace Walk and sharing my page. Just a £20 donation could provide a young person with an experienced youth worker for an hour, building their confidence, resilience and motivation during this time.

Final big walk before the day!

Monday 23rd Sep
Had a great walk on Saturday - 13 miles around some lovely wetlands, woods and across one of the big estates nearby. Feeling more ready now!
Next weekend is a 6 mile stroll then the big day is the following weekend! Roll on 6th October

Keeping going...

Monday 16th Sep
It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted; I've continued training but had a few niggles. Shoes that have worn through in 6 weeks, trying to wear in new ones, trying a new route to prevent boredom but ended up walking through jungle!! Yesterday I stuck to a known, mostly pavement or rough path, route. Cutting out cross-country and fields really helped speed up my time.
Next week is another 14 mile practice - Onwards!

Bank holiday stroll

Tuesday 27th Aug
Another walk in the bag yesterday - following the half marathon training plan provided by the Princes Trust I completed 8 miles yesterday. Aching today!

Training!

Wednesday 21st Aug
Realising that 13.1 miles isn't just a stroll, though I am looking forward to having some great company from the OneAdvanced team!
Did a 6 mile walk with my (very fit) son nearby along the Brampton Valley Way starting at Maidwell and finishing at Market Harborough. Managed this in 2 hours so a pretty good pace for me! Now to work on extending the distance and maintain the nice pace...anyone who knows me is aware I am usually pretty slow!
